Reconciliation in Christ المصالحة في المسيح

A blog site dedicated to showing the world the reconciliation that God offers to us and between us through the blood of Christ--the blood He shed in love for us and for all nations, to make us one with Him, and one in Him, for eternity.

Jesus Christ the Apple Tree

I've been recently enthralled with the song "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree," which we're singing in my choir (the Boulder Chorale Chamber Chorus). I feel like God was speaking to me through it ever since we started practicing it, but recently it's really started to mean even more to me. Part of the importance to me is that three years ago I wrote a song called the "Tree of Life" which brings out the imagery and symbolism in the Bible on trees and vines, especially the tree of life and the cross. The idea of Jesus as an apple tree comes from Song of Solomon 2:3:

Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest
is my lover among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade,
and his fruit is sweet to my taste.

A video of the Cambridge King's College Choir singing this song can be found here.

You can also listen to the song I wrote here.

Here are the lyrics to "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree":

The tree of life my soul hath seen
Laden with fruit and always green
The tree of life my soul hath seen
Laden with fruit and always green
The trees of nature fruitless be
Compared with Christ the apple tree

His beauty doth all things excel
By faith I know but ne'er can tell
His beauty doth all things excel
By faith I know but ne'er can tell
The glory which I now can see
In Jesus Christ the apple tree

For happiness I long have sought
And pleasure dearly I have bought
For happiness I long have sought
And pleasure dearly I have bought
I missed of all but now I see
'Tis found in Christ the apple tree

I'm weary with my former toil
Here I will sit and rest a while
I'm weary with my former toil
Here I will sit and rest a while
Under the shadow I will be
Of Jesus Christ the apple tree

This fruit does make my soul to thrive
It keeps my dying faith alive
This fruit does make my soul to thrive
It keeps my dying faith alive
Which makes my soul in haste to be
With Jesus Christ the apple tree
